Sasabonsam is a mythical folklore creature among the Akan people of Ghana.

Often depicted as a vampiric or bat-like creature that inhabits dense forests, its main goal is to protect the natural environment from intruders and is associated with a sense of mystery and fear.

Folktales describe Sasabonsam hanging from trees, waiting to catch unsuspecting passersby.
The mythology serves as a cautionary tale, warning people against entering the deep, untouched parts of the forest which serves as a cultural and traditional warning, discouraging individuals from straying too far into the unknown and emphasizing the importance of respecting the natural environment
